Jeremiah Cranmer is credited with naming Northfield, Ohio. The town was named after Northfield, Connecticut since he had lived near there prior to moving to Ohio in June 1810. His cabin was built on Lot 72 at what is now called 11463 Valley View Road. He is listed in Boston Township, Portage County tax list for 1816, and was elected as Judge, Trustee, and Election Judge in Northfield in May 1819. Jeremiah & Hannah were charter members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, which was organized July 21, 1831. They are both buried in Northfield-Macedonia Cemetery.
