CAPT. JOSEPH GIDEON MCNUTT, son of JANE CAMPBELL HAWKINS and JOHN MURRAY UPHAM MCNUTT, was born in October, 1833 in Preble County, Ohio,⁹⁹⁸³ and died March 2, 1877 in Richmond, Wayne, Indiana.⁹⁹⁸² He is buried in Earlham Cemetery, Richmond, Wayne, Indiana.^{89, 1125}

He married LAETITIA JANE SCOTT on January 12, 1859 in Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio,¹⁷⁸⁶ daughter of MARTHA MCGLATHERY and ANDREW FINLEY SCOTT. She was born in 1840 in Centerville, Wayne, Indiana, and died February 23, 1863 in Richmond, Wayne, Indiana. She is buried in Earlham Cemetery, Richmond, Wayne, Indiana.^{89, 1125}

Joseph Gideon McNutt, of Eaton, Ohio, who was well known in College Hill and in this city twenty-five years ago, died of consumpltion, last Friday, at the home of his father-in-law, Mr. Scott, in Richmond, Indiana.
