JAMES BELL DEAD, CLINTON PIONEER

Had Lived in De Witt County Since 1856.

(Review Special Service.)

Clinton, Ill, Oct. 29 — James Bell, a leading citizen and pioneer of Clinton, passed away in his residence on South East street this morning at 2:20 from a severe attack of pneumonia. From the first his life had been despaired of, and although everything in the way of medical aid was given, yet it was of no avail. Mr. Bell was in his 74th year and continued his activities up to the time that he was stricken, in the manufacture of brick in South Clinton.

Mr. Bell was born in the state of Maryland in 1833 and came to Clinton in 1856 and has made this city his home ever since. He was a man of great industry and had succeeded in acquiring some property.

He is survived by a wife, who has been an invalid for some time, three daughters, Mrs. Scott of Iowa, Mrs. S. H. Stewart of South Dakota, Mrs. Morris Manch of this city and Grant Bell of this city, a retired merchant.

Clinton will feel the loss of Mr. Bell keenly, as he was a public-spirited gentleman and well liked by all with whom he came in contact.
