Blair, Dorothy Junge

Rochester: Beloved mother and friend, died peacefully in her sleep August 3, 2013 at the Episcopal Home, Rochester, NY, at the age of 92. She is predeceased by her husband Edgar A. Blair; brothers, Southern, Kellogg and Robert Junge and son-in-law, John Packard. She is survived by her children; Elizabeth (William) Keokosky of Ithaca, NY, Dorothy Blair of Boalsburg, PA, William Blair of Howell, NJ, and Allen (Linda) Blair of Rochester, NY, along with grandchildren, William and Sofia Keokosky, Kate and Beth Blair, and Ellen Blair Packard.

Dorothy was born in Chicago, May 23, 1921, daughter of Oscar and Valley Junge. During the Great Depression her family moved to Joplin, MO. There she attended high school and played marimba in an all-girls band. Dorothy met Edgar Blair in Joplin and they married during World War II in Los Angeles, where she was employed by Pinkerton Detective Agency.

Their first 3 children were born in California, and their 4th child was born after a move to New Jersey in the 1950s. Dorothy served as Deacon at the matawan, NJ First Presbyterian Church for many years. Following her daughters she began her college education at Rutgers, which would lead to a career as a teaching assistant in the Middletown, NY School System. Dorothy was a music lover, talented seamstress, quilter, flower gardener, avid member of the League of Women Voters and champion of women's rights. Following her husband's death in 2003 she moved to River Edge Manor in Rochester NY to be closer to her son Allen. She attended Saint Thomas Episcopal Church.

Dorothy will be remembered for her warm smile and her knack for making connections wherever she lived. People have been touched by her enthusiasm and lust for life.
