DONN THORP BOYD

Lt. Col. Donn Thorp Boyd (Retired), age 82, of Kerrville, Texas, died on Saturday, September 25, 2004, at his residence. He was born on June 18, 1922, to Harold and Dorothy Boyd, in Seattle, Washington.

While attending the University of Washington, Col. Boyd was drafted in the Army, attended the Army Infantry School and was sent overseas in 1943. Col. Boyd was wounded in France and spent his recuperation in England. In early 1945, he returned to duty in Germany where he met Junia Tryfon, his wife of 59 years. Col. Boyd remained in Europe until 1947. Three years later he joined the Army Air Corp and was returned to Germany. In 1962, Col. Boyd retired from active duty after 20 years of service. Prior to his retirement in Kerrville in 1994, Col. and Mrs. Boyd operated a business in the McAllen area.

Survivors include his wife, Junia; a daughter, Teresa Boyd of San Antonio; granddaughter, Shannya Lynn Boyd of La Grulla, Texas; and brother, Harold Boyd of Washington. A son, Michael Warren Boyd predeceased him.

The family will receive friends at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, Texas, from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, September 28, 2004. Funeral services for Col. Boyd will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2004, St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Kerrville, Texas, with The Rev. Stockton Williams, officiating.

Memorial remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Junia Tryfon Boyd, 85, of Kerrville, passed away on January29, 2012 in Kerrville. She was born in Poland to Raisa Elena Zaidlef on March 26, 1926. She married Ret. Lt. Col. Donn T. Boyd on July 3, 1946 in Garmish, Germany.

She worked as a business owner and housewife.

Junia is preceded in death by husband, Ret. Lt. Col. Donn T. Boyd and son, Michael W. Boyd.

Junia is survived by daughter, Teresa of San Antonio; granddaughter, Shaynna Lynn of La Grulla, TX and a great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Grimes Funeral Chapels. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Friday, February 3, 2012 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, with Father Stockton Williams of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, officiating.
