JESSE B. CALDWELL married ANNA M. MCDONALD on May 17, 1876 in Marion County, Indiana,¹⁶⁷⁵ daughter of NANCY RUTH BUELL and JOSEPH EWING MCDONALD. She was born in 1853, and died June 1, 1877.⁶³³³ She is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana.¹²³⁹

Mrs. Caldwell's Death

The death of Mrs. Jesse B. Caldwell, although it ends months of protracted suffering, comes with crushing force to the bereft of kin, and it falls little less heavily in that wider circle of friendship, bound fast to the pure heart and kindly hand which made a life beautiful with generous impulse and self-abnegation. Those who knew her in childhood, and watched her in womanhood, see with mournful pleasure now the perfect proportions of a life whose every thought and act was for others. Amid sickness and death, with afflictions that seemed to impel all thoughts toward self-care, one can not recall a time when anxiety for others, desire to do, was not the absorbing motive of her being. For months she has suffered as few are called upon to suffer, but the gnawing anguish could never direct her sorrow for those around her to herself, and to the last her generous spirit grieved for the husband, father and friend.
