Doris Marie Maria, age 92, passed away at the Trinidad Inn Nursing Home on April 19, 2019.
She was born in Trinidad, Colorado on December 13, 1926 the daughter of Elsie (Laurie) and Paul Chenoweth.
Doris attended area schools, graduating from Trinidad High School in 1944.
On July 3, 1947, Doris was united in marriage to Sam Maria in Trinidad, Colorado
She never knew a stranger and her love for children was the reason that she fostered over 48 children in her lifetime.
She enjoyed caring for her animals especially her goats.
Doris enjoyed fishing and horseback rising.
She will be missed by those who were fortunate to have her in their lives.
Preceding her in death are parents, Elise and Paul Chenoweth, son Marty Paul Zappanti, children, Donald Maria, Nadine Maria, Frank Borrego and sister Pauline Brandt.
She is survived by children, Cathy Menapace, Trinidad, CO, Elsie (Richard) Hamman, Trinidad, CO, Sam Maria Jr., NM, Margaret Maria (Junie Verquer), Trinidad, CO, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews .
Visitation will be Tuesday from 3pm-6pm at the Comi Chapel.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 10am at First Christian church with Pastor Cary Nelson officiating.
Interment will follow at the Trinidad Masonic Cemetery.
Active pallbearers are grandsons and great grandsons, Montana Maria, Wolfgang Maria, Jim Frye, Thomas Frye, Richard Hamman Jr, and Anthony Serna.

Pauline Brandt, age 81, passed away May 16, 2010 in Colorado Springs. She was born November 6, 1928 in Trinidad to Paul and Elsie (Laurie) Chenoweth.
Pauline is survived by her sister, Doris Maria; daughter, Yvonne Bachtell; son Richard Brandt (wife, Nanette); three grandchildren: James Bachtell, Brian Stricker, and Joey Stricker; seven great-grandchildren: LeeRoy Bachtell, LeeAnn Bachtell, Chris Bachtell; and Heather Bachtell, Jackson Stricker, Olivia Stricker, and Owen Stricker; one great-great-grandchild, Daymon Bachtell-Mital; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Brandt, and granddaughter, Jen Bachtell.
A Celebration of Life remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 5th at Pauline's home at 1223 North Royer Street.
