The wedding of Miss Viola Mae Swanson, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Van Houten, and Blaine Merritt Cline, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Alexander Tueski, was an event of Sunday afternoon at the First Presbyterian church. The Rev. John Goodenberger officiated at the 3 o'clock service before an altar decorated with white and pink gladioluses.
Nuptial music was provided by soloist, Terry Murray and organist, Mrs. Ralph Dobbs.
The bride wore a white old-fashioned lace gown over white satin, which was ballerina length and designed with a low scalloped neckline, gathered skirt and scalloped hemline. Her veil was elbow length white net secured by an orange blossom crown. The bride carried a bouquet of white roses, gladioluses and stephanotis centered by an orchid. She was given in marriage by her uncle, Milo Van Houten.
Attending the bride were Miss Elsie Marie Furrer, maid of honor, who wore a ballerina length light green net frock over satin, and bridesmaids, Miss Hazel Jean Swanson and Miss Sharon Swanson, sisters of the bride, in yellow and blue frocks made like that of the maid of honor. Each carried a bouquet of white roses and gladioluses and wore a carnation crown in her hair.
Best man was James Johnson of Portland and ushers were Herbert Adler, Ingvald Johnson, George Causey and Robert price.
The bride's grandmother wore a navy blue silk dress and a white rosebuds corsage. The mother of the bridegroom wore a black net dress and a pink rosebud corsage.
About 200 persons attended the reception in the church parlors following the ceremony, Mrs. Doreen Johnson cut the cake while Mrs. Irene Price and Mrs. George Causey poured. Mrs. Betty Johnson passed the guest book.
For going away the bride wore a plum and pink knitted suit with matching hat, navy blue bag and shoes. She wore the orchid from her bridal bouquet.
Following a wedding trip to Los Angeles, Lake Tahoe and Reno, the couple will be at home in Salem.

SAN DIEGO — Blaine M. Cline, 75, formerly of Salem, died Friday.
He was born in St. Louis, Mo., and served in the Army during World War II.
He married Viola Swanson in 1950 in Salem. He lived in Salem and worked for the state of Oregon for 22 years. He retired in 1982 and moved to San Diego. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; and daughter, Alannah Singer of San Diego.
