Jean Cummings

CONNERSVILLE, Ind. — Jean Trusler Cummings, died Wednesday March 17, 1999 at Caroleton Manor Nursing Home.

She was born in Fayette County to Claude L. and Estella Jerman Trusler. After graduating from Connersville High School, she attended Earlham College in Richmond and later Indiana University. Teaching Latin and English, she taught at Everton and Alquina when these schools offered a high school education. She taught at COnnersville Junior High School until she married Houghton Lawrence Cummings in Baltimore, Md. in 1943. She returned to Connersville in 1962 and joined Connersviller Senior High School and taught there until her retirement in 1972. In 1994 she was inducted into Fayette County School Corporation Education Hall of Fame. She was a member of Delta Zeta Collegiate Sorority, the local Cary Club, The Coterie, Daughters of the American Colonist, The Questers, and the First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Noel and Yale Trusler.

Survivors include three sisters, Esther Hassler of Connersville, Helen Gerald of Naples, Fla., and Elizabeth Murr of Simi Valley, Calif.; several nieces and nephews.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Urban-Winklr Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Brackney of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Public Library.
