Obituary

Leonilla “Lilly” Hall, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at Hospicare in Ithaca, NY, with her son by her side. Lilly was born Leonilla Maria Koubele on November 21, 1927, in Rottenmann, Austria. She spent much of her youth in Vienna, where she acquired her love for music, especially waltzes. Lilly married the love of her life, Medwin, in Vienna in 1946, and the couple gave birth to one son, Josef. In 1950, the family moved to Leesville, Louisiana. Lilly spoke often of the nuns who helped her learn English and of all the Cajun critters she hadn’t previously encountered. After 10 years in Louisiana, the Halls moved to Berlin, Germany where Medwin eventually retired from the US Army. Retirement brought the family to Houston, Texas, where Lilly began what would be a lengthy career in personnel at Sears. Lilly was an active member of Corpus Christi Parish in Houston for over 40 years, where she volunteered in numerous capacities to serve the public and church community.

Lilly and Medwin loved cooking, gardening and doting on their grandchildren, Jennifer and Mark. They took numerous bus trips all over the United States and looked forward to holidays and family celebrations. After Medwin’s death in 2005, Lilly became the guiding light for her family and enjoyed the company and support of many friends and neighbors. In 2006, Jennifer married Christopher King, and with the arrival of her first great-granddaughter Chloe, Lilly’s life found a new purpose. Then Adeline and Piper came along, giving her 3 great-granddaughters to spoil. Lilly and her son, Joe, moved to Murray, KY to be near the five Kings, and when the family moved to Ithaca, NY, Lilly and Joe soon followed. Lilly’s most recent joy came from seeing her grandson Mark marry his dear wife Annie in 2018.

Lilly will be remembered for her strong faith in God, her generous spirit, her sharp mind, her sound advice, and her love for hosting loved ones around her dining table.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, September 23, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9900 Stella Link Rd. Houston, TX 77025. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery.9304
