ATTENTIONS TO WOMAN CAUSE OF A SHOOTING

BLACKWELL KILLS EUSTIS MAN AT HIS HOME

Hampton Leaves Several Children—Shooting Causes Profound Sensation

EUSTIS, May 13.—(Special)—N. F. Blackwell, stenographer and assistant bookkeeper at the First State Bank of this city, shot and instantly killed Ernest Hampton at the latter's home Monday night about eight o'clock. It is alleged that Blackwell had been paying attentions to Hampton's wife, which were resented by Hampton. A quarrel ensued.

Previous to the tragedy, Blackwell made an attempt to borrow a gun from a neighbor, but was unsuccessful and went from there to another place, where he secured a shotgun. Going back to the Hampton home he met Hampton in the yard and shot him.

Immediately after the murder Blackwell ran to his boarding house and was taken into custody there. He was hustled to the County Jail at Tavares and lodged there for safe-keeping.

Blackwell comes of a good family, it is learned, and was well thought of here. Mr. Hampton was in the employ of his father who runs the Lake Transfer Company, connecting with the Seaboard at Eldora, and had many friends. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, the stores of the city closing during the hour of services.

Hampton leaves two small children to mourn the loss of their father.
