Obituaries

Cincinnati Daily Gazette, September 13, 18731483

The Rev. Andrew Heron, D. D., of the U. P. Church, died at Cedarville, O., Aug. 31, nearly 85 years old, after 60 years of service. Born in Scotland, he came to this country, studied for the ministry, and in 1813 was licensed to preach by the Associate Presbytery of Albany. After five years' missionary work he settled over a charge in Virginia for 13 years. In 1831 he emigrated to Ohio, and settled on Caesarcreek, in Greene County. His people were greatly attached to him, and many of them came and settled with him in what is now the U. P. Congregation of Caesarcreek, then the Associate Congregation of the same name. During his residence in Rockbridge, he was appointed Professor of Languages in Washington College, at Lexington, and from this institution, many years afterward, he received his degree of Doctor of Divinity. Dr. Heron continued in the pastoral care of the Caesarcreek congregation about twelve years, when he gave up his charge and united with the Reformed Church, and afterward with the Associate Reformed Church. This change of connection resulted from the Bullion trouble in the Associate Church, in which he became in some way involved. When he gave up the Caesarcreek congregation he moved into Xenia, and afterward to Cedarville, where he remained until his death.
