George Highland, or Hiland, was at Guilford on Spet. 4, 1651, when he took the oath of fidelity. He may have come from Wethersfield. He had a home lot with an orchard, containing 1 1/2 acres, and a parcel of upland of 10 acres. Later in his life he sold these lands, and bought a new home lot containing 2 acres, adjoining a parcel of pasture land containing 13 acres and a piece of land in the plain. He married Mary [Hannah], daughter of Abraham Cruttenden, about 1665, and died Jan. 21 1692-3. He left no sons, but his daughters all married in Guilford, and left descendants who were among the most prominent families claiming a Guilford origin. Hon. Hiland Hall of Bennington, Vt., member of Congress and afterwards Governor of that State, was a descendant.
