Grace E. Kirby

Grace Elizabeth Kirby, 79, of Hummelstown, died Monday, October 12, 2009 at the Hershey Medical Center surrounded by her family.

Born September 7, 1930 in Harrisburg, she was a daughter of William and Blanche (Weaver) Kling.

Mrs. Kirby was a homemaker and she loved making candy.

She was a volunteer for many years with the Pennsylvania Association of the Blind, Tri-County Branch, for which she was named Volunteer of the Year for 1994.

She was also a volunteer for the United Way, for which she was named Adult Volunteer of the Year for 2003.

She was a former member of the Mennonite Church, Steelton.

On July 3, 1953 in Hummelstown, she married Glenn L. Kirby, who survives along with a daughter, Diane Rizzo of Hummelstown; four grandchildren, Scott, Meghan, and Rachel Boyer, and Anthony Rizzo.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela, on July 20, 2007; a brother, Marlin Kling; and two sisters, Martha Harlan, and Katherine Kling.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, Inc., 4100 Jonestown Rd., Harrisburg, with The Reverend Dodge Glenn officiating.

Friends will be received at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 98 S. Enola Dr., P.O. Box 266, Enola, PA 17025.

Glenn L. Kirby, 91, of Hummelstown Boro, passed away, Thursday June 27, 2019 at Hospice and Caring Community Care in Mount Joy, PA.

Born November 27, 1927, in Dauphin County Swatara Township PA, he was the son of Arthur and Katherine (Heller) Kirby. Kirby served his country with the U. S. Navy during WWII. He was retired from Conrail where he worked for over 40 years. He was known as “Mr. Pretzel” when he worked at the Giant Center in Hershey. He also worked at the Weis market in Hummelstown where he was known for his friendliness and a ready smile. He loved children and always wanted to make them laugh. He loved working on his lawn and flower gardens. He loved spending time with his family.

Surviving are his daughter Diane Rizzo; Son in Law Carey Boyer, 4 grandchildren, Scott Boyer, Meghan (Steve) Charron, Rachel (Kyle) Blevins, Anthony "TJ" (Heather) Rizzo; 6 great grandchildren, Marlowe and Briar Charron, Hudson and soon to be Blevins, Kinsley Rizzo and Madison Kennedy; 1 sister Lillian Rogers and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Kirby was predeceased by his wife Grace (Weaver) Kirby, a daughter Pamela (Kirby) Boyer, 3 brothers, Gilbert, Paul, and Rodney, 1 sister Thelma Sockman.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, Inc., 4100 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17109 AT 11AM. The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at Hospice and Community Care for their kindness. Their work and facility are priceless.
