Knightstown Native Dies

Elbert O. Leavelle, 73, 1331 N. Kealing Ave., Indianapolis, died early Friday morning in his home following an illness of two years.

He had resided in Indianapolis for 13 years and had been bron in Knightstown June 5, 1897. From 1933 to 1945 Mr. Leavelle owned and operated Leavelle's Greenhouse on N. McCullum Street, here. A specialty of his business was geranium cuttings which were shipped all over the world. Later he worked as a plumber and maintenance engineer. He was a member of the Knightstown Masonic Lodge and a veteran of World War I.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Merremae Leavelle of Indianapolis, three daughters, Mrs. George (Sarah) Godby of R. 2 Pendleton, Mrs. Virgil (Thelma) Welsh of Columbus, Mrs. Thomas (Ruth) Barnes of California; a son, Elbert O. Leavelle Jr. of Kennard; a brother, Carroll Leavelle of Knightstown; a sister, Mrs. Don (Ruby) Hewitt of Knightstown; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Butcher Funeral Home here by Rev. Arthur Friesen. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery where Masonic graveside services were conducted.
