DEXTER CHURCH SCENE OF GROSS, LEVERETT RITES

Miss Dorothy Gross, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Gross, Dexter, became the wife of Charles W. Leverett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Leverett, in a service performed in St. Andrew Evangelical Church, Dexter, by Rev. Edward W. Drews at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon with the double ring ceremony.

The church lent itself to pleasing decorations. Tall vase flanking the altar were filled with a quantity of gladioli and chrysanthemums in peach, yellow and white, and beyond were candelabra seven pointed with white candles. Woodrow Jones sang "O, Promise Me" and "I Love You Truly."

The bride wore a white satin gown, made long, with a lace yoke and long sleeves. White satin buttons fastened the gown in the back. Orange blossoms held her net veil in place. White roses and white chrysanthemums were carried by the bride in a shower bouquet.

The two bridesmaids, Mrs. DeLyn Leverett, sister of the groom, and Miss Shirley Wilson, were dressed alike in green velvet and taffeta formals, with a lovely effect produced by bronze and gold colored plumes and streamers. Both carried yellow talisman roses and bronze mums.

The bride's mother wore blue with black accessories and her flowers were white roses and carnations. The groom's mother was in gray with purple accessories, while her flowers were dark cornflowers and pink roses.

Ushers at the wedding were Carl Gross, brother of the bride, Robert Barr, Buffalo, cousin of the groom, and Roy Fischer, Ann Arbor.

A reception was held in the church parlors where coffee, tea, cake and ice cream were served. Mrs. Alfred Gross and Mrs. Ruth Gregory pouring, assisted by Miss Mary Lesser, Dexter, cousin of the bride, and Miss Clarissa Briggs, Adrian.

In leaving for their wedding trip, the bride was gowned in a brown shepherd check with a brown topcoat.

The bride is a graduate of Dexter High School and has had a year of training in Ford Hospital, Detroit.

Mr. Leverett is a graduate of Ypsilanti High School, class of '38. He attended Michigan State Normal College two years and will finish his work in Michigan State College, East Lansing, in March. He is assistant to Dr. H. Gould in the dairy research laboratory there. Mr. Leverett's fraternity is Alpha Tau Omega.

Leverett, Dorothy M. 12/18/1920 - 3/29/2018 Ann Arbor Dorothy Marie Leverett was born December 18, 1920 in Dexter, MI. to Adolph and Esther Gross, died March 29, 2018 surrounded by her family. The end of her life care was given lovingly by Legacy Assisted Living in Jackson, MI. Dorothy met the love of her life, Charles William Leverett in 1937 at the Pittsfield Grange Hall, where she attended the Saturday night dances with her parents. She was part of the war effort here in the United States during World War II, by working at the Willow Run Bomber Plant. She was very proud to be part of such history. Dorothy and Charlie married on December 20, 1942 at St. Andrews Church in Dexter, MI. While he was serving overseas during World War II, Dorothy stayed behind in Dexter, MI. with their first child, Judy, and her parents. In 1956, Dorothy and Charlie started the well-known and beloved Leverett's Country Market on Packard Rd. in Ann Arbor, MI. They ran the Farm Market together until Charlie's death in November, 1976. After his death, Dorothy continued to run the Market with her children by her side until 1995. She was an incredible strong, hard working woman, who took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as her many close friends. Dorothy enjoyed traveling the world with her friends, traveling to over 25 different countries, always remembering to bring home little gifts for her grandchildren. Dorothy and Charlie loved to be with the "Totally Terrific Too-Too's", a small group of friends who enjoyed going Up North, hiking, seeing the fall colors, dancing and being together. They were also part of the 40 Diners Club. She loved working in her flower beds, watching the birds on her many bird feeders and having picnics and ice cream sundaes with her great grandchildren. Dorothy also enjoyed sewing clothes for the horse shows, taking her grandkids to the pool, having them help her set up her Christmas tree and village, as well as having many sleepovers where they would have "my favorite casserole", read "Ira Sleeps Over" and watching the Golden Girls. She always had them helping her to make Christmas ornaments to sell at the Market. Dorothy is survived by her children; Judy Leverett, Kristine (Robert) Downie, and Michael (Christine) Leverett, her grandchildren; Marianna (Marco) Leverett, John Leverett, Scott (Julie) Downie, Tim (Katie) Tracy, Kelli (Jimmy) Roberts, Nicole (Abe) Cotton, and Brent (Allyson) Leverett, she is also survived by 12 great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Charles William Leverett, her son Charles William Jr, also known as C.B., her great granddaughter Annabelle Marie Marsh, her parents Adolph and Esther Gross, and her brothers Harold and Carl Gross. Visitation will be held from 4pm-8pm on Monday, April 2 and from 12pm-1pm Tuesday, April 3 at Nie Funeral Home on W. Liberty in Ann Arbor, MI. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 3 at 1pm at Nie Funeral Home, Luncheon will be served at Webers Inn following the service and burial at Bethlehem Cemetery.
