Funeral services for Mrs. Abbie Jackson Needham, member of a prominent pioneer Richmond family, who died Thursday morning at her home in Charleston, W. Va., at an advanced age, will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday, at Earlham cemetery. Rev. George G. Burbank, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal church, will officiate. Burial at the cemetery will follow services.
Mrs. Needham was the widow of George S. Needham, also a native of Richmond. She was born in Richmond but had resided in Charleston since 1902.
Mrs. Needham was the daughter of Richard and Anna Jackson, who resided at the home now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph G. Leeds, 131 South Eighteenth street, the section then known as Jackson Hill.
Mr. Jackson became one of Richmond's pioneer merchants. Born in Ireland he came to America as a youth and after working in New York, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis, he moved to Richmond in 1855 where he founded the New York Cash store. Later, with others, he founded the Chase Piano company, this city, in 1876, and served as secretary and treasurer. He died in 1881. He and members of his family were members of the Episcopal church.
Mrs. Needham's husband was killed in a disastrous railroad wreck at Hagerstown, Ind., more than 50 years ago. A brother of Mrs. Needham was Richard Jackson, a prominent Richmond attorney who later became nationally known as a railroad executive. Another brother, Malcolm Jackson, whose death occurred a few years ago, attained distinction as an attorney at Charleston, W. Va. Mrs. Needham is survived by two sons, Richard and Edgar, two nephews and a niece, and four grandchildren.
