Heart Attack Is Fatal To Roland Nusbaum, 65

Roland L. Nusbaum, retired sales manager of the Central Broadcasting corporation, died suddenly early Tuesday.

Mr. Nusbaum, 65 years old, resided at 2501 Chester boulevard.

Death was attributed to a heart attack. he had been in his usual health and with Mrs. Nusbaum planned to leave on a vacation to Cape Cod, Mass., within a few days.

Mr. Nusbaum had a coronary attack in April of 1954 but recovered sufficiently to resume his business activities until his retirement in January of this year. He was with the radio station 15 years, going there in 1944.

Mr. Nusbaum was associated with his father in the Lee B. Nusbaum company here for a number of years and was assistant manager of the company from 1917 to 1927. The Nusbaum company operated a department store in the building now occupied by the J. C. Penney company. He also was president and treasurer of the Nusbaum Stores, inc., a real estate and holding company.

Former Reporter

Mr. Nusbaum was a reporter on The Richmond Palladium in 1915-1916 and an insurance salesman from 1928 to 1930. From 1931 to 1933 he was associated with the late Paul Kring in a music store here and for 10 years, from 1934-44, was an advertising salesman for the Richmond Shopper.

Widely known in music circles, Mr. Nusbaum had given private lessons on various instruments. He was choir director and organist of the old First Methodist church and later the Central Methodist church, of which he was a member, for 28 years. He retired from that post in 1945.

A veteran of world War 1, he was a member of the American Legion. he also was a member of Webb Lodge of Masons, the Scottish Rite and Shrine, the Elks, Eagles and Moose lodges. He also was a member of the Rotary club.

Born In Richmond

Mr. Nusbaum was born in Richmond, the son of Lee B. and Mary Nusbaum, Jan. 10, 1894. He graduated from Richmond high school in 1911 and from Earlham college with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1915.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Corinne Nusbaum; three children, William L. Nusbaum, Ardsley, N. Y., Mrs. Paul W. Rehse, Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. Jane Mitchell, Dallas, Tex.; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. E. L. Olcott, Fort Wayne; Mrs. Harry Sintz, Richmond, and Mrs. Whitney S. McGuire, Richmond; one brother, Floyd E. Nusbaum, North Hollywood, Calif.

Private graveside services for Mr. Nusbaum will be held in Earlham cemetery Thursday. Friends may call at the Doan and Johnson mortuary Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Corinne Nusbaum, 85, a resident of Jenkins Hall, died there Wednesday after a brief illness.

She was a lifelong resident of Richmond and the widow of Roland Nusbaum, who died in 1959. She was a member of Central United Methodist Chuch and was formerly active with the Welcome Wagon organization.

Survivors include one son, William L. of Tampa, Fla.; one daughter, Mariellen McClure of Miamisburg, Ohio; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one stepbrother, Dr. Robert Wilson.

Graveside services for Mrs. Nusbaum will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Earlham Cemetery with Pastor Paul A. Kelcourse officiating. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Doan & Mills Funeral Home.
