Following a lingering illness, part of which was spent in an Omaha hospital, J. L. Russell passed away at his home in the north part of town Thursday, March 9, about 3:30 a. m.
James Lincoln Russell, son of James and Eliza Keturah Russell, was born June 8, 1860 at Bellevue, Sarpy county. On Sept. 22, 1885 he was united in marriage with Mary Warner who passed away Oct. 6, 1886. One daughter, Mable LeRoy Russell, was born to this union. In 1893 Mr. Russeel was united in marriage wtih Emma J. Hooker of Ashland who, with the daughter, Mable LeRoy Russell; one sister, Mrs. Katie Grinnell of Fremont, and several nephews and nieces and many friends are left to mourn his loss.
Mr. Russell united iwth the Methodist church when a young man of 19 years of age. He was a mason by trade and had spent over 20 years in Ashland.
Funeral services for Mr. Russell were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the K. I. March chapel, conducted by Rev. T. Porter Bennett, pastor of the Methodist church. The pallbearers were J. C. Bryant, Earl Fox, W. E. C. Becker, S. H. Hollinger, H. A. Weaver and Alex Vallier. The remains were laid to rest in the Ashland cemetery.

After years of ill health, Mrs. James Lincoln Russell passed away at an early hour Wednesday morning, Jan. 12, at the hospital in Prague, where she had been for about a week when her condition became critical. She was aged 73 years, 6 months and 18 days.
Emma Jane Hooker was born on her father's old homestead ten miles northeast of Ashland on June 23, 1868 and was one of eight children. She was united in marriage in 1893 to James Lincoln Russell who passed away several years ago. One child was born to this union, who died in infancy. Mrs. Russell leaves to mourn her loss two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Anderson and Mrs. Josephine Bevins of Omaha; two brothers, Joseph and George Hooker of Ashland, and a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 14, at the Marcy Chapel, conducted by Rev. T. Porter Bennett, pastor of the Methodist church. Chapel music was used. Pallbearers were J. H. Granger, W. A. McReynolds, Harry Woodruff, Edward Hoffman and George W. Harmon. Burial was in the Ashland cemetery.
