John L. Scott, 69, Los Angeles Times drama critic and staff writer for more than 45 years, was found dead at his home Thursday. The cause of death was not immediately known.
Friends said Thursday that Mr. Scott had been involved in a minor automobile accident on Dec. 14. A coroner's autopsy was scheduled.
Mr. Scott, who coverall all branches of show business in his long career, started newspaper work as a reporter for the now defunct Journal of Commerce after he graduated from USC in 1926.
He joined The Times drama department in May, 1929, and wrote motion picture and stage reviews and produced feature stories. He also had served as daily drama editor in charge of the drama pages.
In later years, Mr. Scott specialized in nightclub and show reviews and for many years covered Las Vegas openings. He formally retired in May, 1970, but continued to work on a special assignment basis covering openings at Las Vegas and Los Angeles clubs.
He was born in Clarion, Iowa, on May 14, 1905.
