Will and Probate for Curtis Shedd
Denmark, Lee, Vermont, September 7, 187611315
In the name of God, Amen. I Curtis Shedd of Denmark, in the county of Lee and State of Iowa, being of sound mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of life, do therefore make, ordain and declare this to be my last Will and Testament. That is to say, First, after all my lawful debts are paid and discharged, the residue of my estate real and personal, I give bequeath, and dispose of as follows, to wit.
To my beloved wife, one undivided half othe homestead where we now live, being known as Block No. x in the town of Denmark, county of Lee and State of Iowa, with all the appurtenances, and all the household furniture and all the personal property used in and bout the said premises, also one thousand dollars in money and also the use of all my real and personal estate which I now own or may hereafter acquire, during her natural life, with the exception of one thousand dollars which I give and bequeath to my three brothers, Charles, James and George, in three equal sums, to wit: Three hundred and thirty three 33/100 dollars each. I also give and bequeath to my daughter, Ella Monroe, one thousand dollars, being in the form of a life insurance policy issued by the "Charter Oak" life insurance of Connecticut, on my own life. The entire remainder and residue of my real and personal estate which I now own, or may hereafter acquire, I give and bequeath to the Trustees of Denmark Academy, in the town of Denmark, county of Lee and state of Iowa, as a permanent fund for that Institution, the interest of which only is to be used for its benefit as the trustees shall direct. I also further direct, that if one or more of my brothers, or my daughter Ella Monroe should die before receiving their stipulated share or shares, such share or shares shall be added to the amount given to the Trustees of the Academy and paid to them for the same purpose & under the same restrictions as the others. I likewise make, constitute and appoint Thomas S Taylor to be the executor of this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made.
