Samuel C. Shedd, born in Mason, N. H., 25 Aug 1773, when seven years old went with his parents to Rindge, N. H., where he lived on his father's farm until he became of age. In 1794 he went with his brothers John H. and Ebenezer to Windsor, Vt., where he bought land of Jacob Staples. Here he built a frame house, cleared and improved his land to which he added by later purchases, and he also conducted a tannery and kept a general store. By industry and frugality he and his wife well reared their children and accumulated a substantial estate. He was a man of large frame and when over seventy years of age was over six feet and two inches in height. He died in Windsor 4 Nov. 1848.
He married at Windsor, 22 Nov. 1796, Sarah Patch, born in Brookfield, Mass., 23 Jan. 1773, daughter of Abraham and Anna (Banister) Patch; she died at the home of her daughter Electa (Shedd) Pierce in West Windsor, Vt., 15 Mar 1857, aged eighty-four years.
