Howard W. Sheldon

Howard W. Sheldon passed away at Pine Valley Care Center on January 15 after a long illness.

He was born in Marilla, Michigan on February 21, 1913.

He was preceded in death by father, Ralph Sheldon; mother, Anna Studley; sister, Doris Meden; and stepfather, Harry Sears. He leaves Ruth, his wife of 60 years; son, Scott Sheldon of Florida; daughter, Melissa Paul of Akron; grandsons, Ryan Paul of Akron and Jason Sheldon of Chicago; niece, Merle Leftwich; and nephew, Victor Meden. He will be missed by his beloved cat, Grady.

He was copy editor for the Cleveland Press for 34 years. He was involved in Richfield Township and Village affairs involved with zoning laws.

He was President and Treasurer of the Richfield Friends of the Library. He wrote publicity for the Richfield Hilltoppers of which he was among the first members. He also belonged to Bath Goodtime Club and the Richfield Historical Society. He, at one time, was district chairman for the Boy Scouts. He was editor of the Richfield Community Calendar for several years.

His favorite hobby was woodworking. He made beautiful furniture and miniature furniture.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. There is no visitation. Inurnment will be at Fairview Cemetery when the family convenes. Contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Akron, 4904 Quick Rd., Peninsula, OH 44264.
