Forest Swartz, 83, a Clinton pioneer, died Monday morning at his home in Clinton.
He was born Jan. 18, 1894, on the family homestead on Swartz Creek. He attended schools in Clinton, then began working as a teamster in the woods. He enlisted in the Army at the beginning of World War I and served in France. After his discharge he returned to the woods to work for the Forest Service.
In 1930 he married Catherine Tage in Dillon. They returned to the family homestead in 1935 and ranched until Mr. Swartz's retirement in 1961. THey moved from the ranch to Clinton at that time.
He was a member of Barracks 835, Veterans of World War I.
Survivors include his wife, Clinton; two daughters, Mrs. James (Harriet) Norris, Great Falls, and Shirley Kieckbusch, Billings; a brother, Charles Polson; a granddaughter, Tina Kieckbusch, Billings, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.
Memorial services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Squire-Simmons-Carr Rose Chapel. The Rev. Charles Allaway will officiate. The body has been cremated.
Memorial contributions can be given to the Clinton Volunteer Fire District.

Catherine T. Swartz, 74, of Clinton died Sunday in a Missoula hospital.
She was born March 20, 1908, at San Bernadino, Calif., to Agustus and Tira Tage. She was raised in Idaho and attended schools graduated from Boise High School.
On Sept. 15, 1931, she married Forest Swartz in Dillon. They moved to Clinton and then ranched on Swartz Creek just east of Clinton from 1935 until 1961. They returned to Clinton in 1961.
Mrs. Swartz was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 14, 1977.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Veterans of World War I Auxiliary.
Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Kieckbusch, Billings; her daughter and son-in-law, Harriet and Jim Norris, Upton, Wyo.; and one granddaughter, Catrina Kieckbusch, Billings.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Squire Simmons & Carr Rose Chapel. The Rev. Charles Allaway will officiate. Cremation will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Crematory. THe family suggests memorials be made to the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department.
