HOWARD IVAN TOMKINS, son of ESTHER PEARL BEAL and HARRY TOMKINS, was born November 11, 1908 in Hayward, Sawyer, Wisconsin,³⁶⁶¹ and died August 5, 1946 in Tacoma, Pierce, Washington.³⁶⁶¹ He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Hayward, Sawyer, Wisconsin.⁴⁵⁶

FATALLY STABBED IN TAVERN BRAWL

PUYALLUP — Howard I. Tomkins, 38, was fatally stabbed in a tavern brawl here last night and John Brown Calton, 28, was lodged in the Pierce county jail for investigation in connection with the incident.

Sheriff's Deputy Joseph Karpach said witnesses told him Tomkins and Calton, both of Puyallup, engaged in a quarrel over some money and a scuffle ensued. Tomkins fell to the floor and Calton ran from the building but was captured after a chase of several blocks Tomkins was taken to a hospital in Tacoma but enroute died of stab wounds.

Calton told Karpach today that he didn't remember anything of the fight but admitted he had been drinking heavily.
