PALMS, peonies, lilies and lighted cathedral candles formed the setting for the marriage of Miss Anna Stanley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Stanley, 3011 Humboldt avenue, and Mr. W. E. Alden, son of Mr. W. A. Alden, which was solemnized last evening at 8 o'clock at St. Mark's chapel. The Rev. J. E. Freeman read the service.
A program of nuptial music was played before and during the ceremony by Mr. J. Nelson, organist.
Mrs. Melvin Oppegard (Helen Stanley) of St. Paul, was her sister's matron of honor. She wore a gown of jade green georgette crepe with a hat to match and carried an arm bouquet of pink sweet peas and lilies of the valley. Little Jane Elwell was the ring bearer and carried the ring in the heart of a lily. Little Evelyn Elwell the flower girl, carried a basket of peonies. They were both dressed in white organdie frocks trimmed with pink bows.
Mr. John Alden attended Mr. Alden as best man. The ushers were Messrs. Robert A. Buchanan and Gordon Grimes.
The bride wore a gown of white bridal satin made with panels of silk voile on each side and elaborated with pearls and sequins. Her tulle veil was arranged in coronet fashion and held in place with a band of pearls and orange blossoms. The bridal bouquet was a shower of sweetheart roses and forget-me-nots.
Following the ceremony a buffet supper was served at the home of the bride's parents for the members of the bridal party and the immediate families.
Mr. Alden and his bride left for Burnside lake, near Ely, Minn., where they will spend the summer. On their return they will make their home in Minneapolis. Mrs. Alden is wearing a traveling gown of dove gray Fort Tussah silk and a wrap of black satin. Her hat is of henna colored douvetyn.
Mrs. Alden is a graduate of the domestic science department of the Chicago technical normal and spent two years abroad in study. She was the domestic scientist of the New York Tribune for a year and a half. Mr. Alden attended the University of Minnesota.
Out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Fay Smith and daughter, Stellah; Mrs. George Campbell and Mrs. Mary Lovell of Austin, Minn.; Mrs. Charles Winkler of New York city, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Weigel and Miss Mary Elwell of Duluth.
Mr. Alden was host at the bridal dinner Friday evening at the Automobile club in honor of his son and his fiancee. The guests were the members of the bridal party and the immediate families.
