Mrs. Mildred Virginia Brewer Ballard, 73, 31 Lakeshore Drive, Newport News, died Wednesday in Mary Immaculate Hospital.
Born in Richmond, she was employed 20 years at the Lackey post office before she retired in 1962. She was a member of Lebanon Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Ulysses G. Ballard; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Freeman of Springfield; a son, Ulysses G. Ballard Jr. of Gloucester; three sisters, Mrs. Edna Langford, Mrs. Frances Pettit and Mrs. Ethel Riley, all of Alexandria; three brothers, Everett Brewer of Alexandria, Frank Brewer of Venice, Fla., and Herbert Brewer of Falls Church; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Lebanon Church of Christ by Rupert Wallace, Joe Parrish and Joe Davenport.
Entombment will be in Veterans Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight in Jennell-Umphlett Funeral Home and requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the building fund of the Gloucester County Church of Christ.

NEWPORT NEWS — Maj. Ulysses Grant Ballard Sr., 84, of 31 Lakeshore Drive, died Saturday in Mary Immaculate Hospital.
He was born in Bozoo, W. Va., and had been a peninsula resident for 40 years.
He retired as a Veteran's Administration inspector of residential mortgages in 1984 after 25 years of service.
He also retired from the Army at Fort Belvoir in 1948 after 23 years of service, followed by seven years in the Army Reserve in Newport News.
He was a member of Lebanon Church of Christ, Lee Hall.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Betty H. Freeman of Anniston, Ala.; a son, U. G. Ballard Jr. of Gloucester; a sister, Mrs. Pansy B. Snyder of Newport News, four brothers, Robert W. Ballard of Bozoo, W.Va., Eldridge E. Ballard of Peterstown, W.Va., Charles M. Ballard of Springfield and Hugh A. Ballard of Stafford; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Umphlett Funeral Home by the Rev. Rupert R. Wallace of Laurel Avenue Church of Christ in Chesapeake. Entombment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Building Fund of Gloucester County Church of Christ or Grundy Mountain Mission School in Grundy.
