Ruth Leard And Edward Ballou Wed Saturday

Quiet Ceremony Took Place at Papillion Church

Miss Ruth Evelyn Leard, daughter of Mrs. D. R. Leard, became the bride of Edward Laughlin Ballou, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Ballou, in a quiet ceremony Saturday, July 26, at the Methodist church in Papillion. The marriage lines were read by Rev. E. H. Unvert, in the presence of Mrs. Leard and Mr. and Mrs. Ballou. Miss Clara Louise Marcy and Eugene Reece attended the bride and groom. Mrs. Ballou was born and reared in Phoenix, Ariz. She was graduated from Herbert Hoover high school and attended Junior college at Glendale; and after coming to Nebraska to reside and attend the Lincoln School of Commerce, and filled a secretarial position in Lincoln. Mr. Ballou was born and reared in this community, and was graduated from the Ashland High school with the class of 1933. He attended the University of Nebraska, where he was affiliated with Kappa Sigma fraternity, and since leaving school has been associated with his father in farming. Mr. and Mrs. Ballou left soon after the ceremony for a motor trip to Minnesota, and after August 1 will be at home at the Ballou farm north of Ashland. Mr. Ballou and his bride are descendants of some of Saunders county’s earliest pioneers, and their forbearers figured prominently in the early life and progress of the community. They have a wide circle of friends who wish them happiness.

Edward Ballou

Edward L. Ballou of Lincoln will celebrate his 84th birthday Dec. 25 with a family gathering and card shower. Cards may be sent to 7020 Huntington Ave., Lincoln, NE 68507.

His children are John and Pat Ballou of Lincoln, Ron and Sandee Ballou of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Bill and Holly Ballou of The Woodlands, Texas. He has four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was born Dec. 25, 1915, south of Ashland on the family farm, and served in the Army during WWII. He has been married to Ruth (Leard) Ballou for 58 years and has resided in Lincoln since 1972.

Survivors: wife, Ruth, Lincoln; sons, daughters-in-law, John Ballou Sr. and fiancee, Julie Scheetz, Lincoln, Ronald D. and Sandee Ballou, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, William M. and Holly Ballou, Woodlands, Texas; grandchildren, Barb (Scott) Bodfield, John Ballou Jr., Jennifer and Tyler Ballou; three great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: parents, uncles; aunts; cousins.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Marcy Chapel, Ashland. Ashland Cemetery. Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Marcy Chapel. The family requests memorials, in lieu of flowers, to First Congregational Church or American Legion Post No. 129. Marcy Mortuary, Ashland.
