Married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Laughlin, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock p. m. Miss Lou Laughlin and Mr. Otis M. Ballou, Rev. J. TOms officiating. None but the immediate friends of the contracting parties being present. Mrs. Ballou is one of Ashland's most charming and accomplished young ladies. Mr. Ballou is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin E. Ballou, living north of the city limits, one of Saunders county's most substantial families. The happy couple left on the afternoon train for Sioux City, Iowa and Columbus, Neb., where they will make short visits and will after March 1st be at home to their friends on the beautiful farm north of the city.

Mrs. Otis M. Ballou died about 5:00 p. m. Sunday, Mar. 17, at the Bryan Memorial hospital in Lincoln. Her sudden death was a shock to many friends and relatives to the Ashland community, and there were many who did not even know that she had been ill. Mrs. Ballou suffered a stroke at the family home north of town Friday night, and she was rushed to the hospital, where, in spite of all medical care, her condition failed to improve. Lula B. Laughlin, daughter of the late Ephriam D. and Latitia R. Laughlin, was born in Cass county, Nebr., Mar. 4, 1886 and passed away after a brief illness on Mar. 17, 1946 at the age of 60 years and three days. When she was a small child her parents moved to Saunders county where she grew to young womanhood. On Feb. 13, 1913 she was united in marriage to Otis M. Ballou. To this union one son, Edward, was born. The entire married life of Mr. and Mrs. Ballou was spent at the farm home north of Ashland, a period of over 30 years during which time they had never moved. Mrs. Ballou, with her family, united with the Congregational church of Ashland in 1921, and had been active in numerous church activities. She was also a member of Chapter BD, P.E.O. sisterhood. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, ever devoted to her home and family. Friends and relatives alike felt a common sense of loss and deep sorrow in her passing. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, Otis M. Ballou; son, Edward and his wife Ruth; six sisters, Mrs. J. A. Reece of Columbus, Mrs. C. J. Bulla of Omaha, Mrs. Elizabeth Weddell, Mrs. Stella Vance, Mrs. Daisy Frank, and Mrs. R. H. Barta, all of Ashland; two brothers, J. C. Laughlin of Omaha and J. E. Laughlin, Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada, as well as other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, Mar. 19, at the Marcy chapel, with Rev. William B. Kline, pastor of the Congregational church in charge. The music was furnished by Mrs. Warren Robinson and James Parks. Mrs. K. I. Marcy played the accompaniment. Pallbearers were Edwin Vance, Richard Vance, Herbert Vance, Robert Barta, Earl Ballou, and Otis Ballou. Burial was made in the Ashland cemetery.

Otis Ballou, 73, died at Bryan Memorial hospital in Lincoln last Thursday evening, Dec. 11, after an illness of two weeks. Funeral services for the prominent Ashland farmer were held at the Marcy Chapel Sunday afternoon, with the Rev. Z. M. Bressler of the First Congregational church officiating. Lloyd Edwards sang “I Won’t Have to Cross Jordan Alone,” accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Warren Robinson. Pallbearers were John B. Peterson, Harry Mowinkel, Ernest Barnes, Chris Kilb, Arthur Jarman, and Orval Thiessen. Kenneth Marcy made the arrangements. Otis Martin Ballou, one of six children born to Martin E. and Jessie Bessel Ballou, was born at Ashland on March 26, 1885. In 1913 he married Miss Lou Laughlin. One son, Edward L., was born to them. In 1919 Mr. and Mrs. Ballou joined the first Congregational church in Ashland. Mrs. Ballou died in March, 1946. On Feb. 14, 1958, Mr. Ballou married Mrs. Alta Vance, and they lived in Ashland. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alta Ballou; by one son, Edward, who continues to live on the family farm north of Ashland; by two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Fenton of Pomona, Calif., and Mrs. Sue Nickerson of Redland, Calif.; three grandsons of Ashland; a stepdaughter, Mrs. J. C. Braddock of Lincoln; four step-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Among the out-of-town relatives and friends attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Best and Mr. and Mrs. Bud Best of Richland; Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Muhle, Adolph Basek, and Gerald Basek of Leigh; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sohl, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Sohl and Jeanie, Hazel Martin, and Fay Crouse, all of Lincoln; Mrs. Ivan Smith and Joseph Basek of Elk City; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Schank of Lexington; and Mrs. Mary Bracal of Schuyler.
