QUIET HOME WEDDING YESTERDAY AFTERNOON

(By Klst News Bureau.)

LAGRANGE, Ind., July 22.—At the home of Dr. D. W. Dryer occurred this afternoon (Wednesday) at 2:30 p. m. the marriage of his only daughter, Alice M., to William Ballou, youngest son of Hon. and Mrs. O. L. Ballou. On account of recent deaths in the family the wedding was a very quiet event, only the immediate relatives of the bride and groom being present to witness the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. Dr. T. E. Hughes, who has been a close friend of both families for many years.

Miss Dryer is a young lady who possesses more than the ordinary queenly womanliness, admired and esteemed by everyone, while Mr. Ballou is a highly respected an industrious young man. Both being graduates of the Lagrange high school, they have a host of friends who wish for them a most happy and successful life. Mr. Ballou is also a graduate of the Indianapolis Dental college, and is now in partnership with his brother, Dr. P. D. Ballou. They both stand high in the social circle of their friends and were the recipients of many beautiful and expensive gifts.

In the evening a reception was tendered them at the home of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Ballou, on North High street, where about sixty relatives and only a few intimate friends met to greet the happy couple. The home was tastefully decorated with ferns and flowers and an elaborate three-course dinner was served by Caterer Teeters, of Albion.

Mr. Ballou and wife were driven to Ligonier in the Streeter auto that evening and will spend a week in Indianapolis, after which they will be at home to their friends in Dr. Dryer's residence, where they will reside for a year or so with her parents.

MISS ALICE DRYER IS IMPROVING.

LAGRANGE, Ind., Oct. 23.—On last Saturday Miss Alice Dryer, eldest daughter of Dr. D. W. Dryer, was thrown from a horse and her right wrist was broken. Many of the young people of LaGrange are developing a taste for horseback riding. Miss Dryer is a teacher in the graded school at Stroh, Ind., and had come back to LaGrange to stay over Sunday with her parents. On Saturday afternoon she joined some of her friends in a horseback riding party. Mr. Augustus Sears' horse was borrowed and Miss Dryer rode it. The horse was not much used for riding purposes and is full of life. He threw his rider with such force that the bones of her right wrist were broken.

Miss Dryer has many friends in LaGrange ad at Stroh who are most anxious for her complete recovery, and if there is as good progress made during the balance of the week as has been made since the accident it is thought that she will be able to resume her duties in the school room next Monday. Miss Goldie Smith, of LaGrange, is acting as substitute for Miss Dryer at Stroh this week.

This accident is more than usually unfortunate for Dr. Dryer's family just at present, inasmuch as Mrs. Dryer has been ill for several weeks, part of the time being in a hospital in Fort Wayne. She is now better and is again at home, but has not yet completely regained her health.
