DIVORCE GRANTED JOHN S. PRATT

CLAIMED WIFE WAS UNFAITHFUL AND CAUSED HIM MUCH PAIN

She Was Formerly member of Salvation Army Here—Married in Junction City.

A surprise to many Independence people was sprung in district court this morning when John S. Pratt applied through his attorney for a divorce from his wife, Elzina Pratt. The plaintiff alleged that he and his wife were married in Junction City in 1905 and that his wife previous to their marriage had been legally divorced from a former husband, Robert E. Beatty.

He went on to say in his testimony that after their marriage he became suspicious that his wife was carrying on correspondence with her former spouse. Finally he broke into her trunk, finding therein many epistles of love and showing beyond a doubt that his wife had no "cozy corner in her heart for him."

The woman in this case was formerly in the Salvation Army here, and was noted for her beauty and magnificent voice. Hundreds of people have stood on the street corners and listened to the beautiful young woman sing the songs of the Army.
