On Friday evening, November 26th, just as the sun was sinking in the west, the citizens of this community were shocked with the news that Mr. Reginald Bell, cashier of the Citizens National Bank of Knightstown, had just been found dead in the bank. The entire town was so awed that small groups of citizens were talking in hushed whispers.
Reginald L. Bell, aged 55 years, died suddenly about 5:00 o'clock last Friday evening, just after closing hours, at the Citizens National Bank. Miss Pearl Runyan, stenographer for Attorney Floyd J. Newby, was working in the Newby offices at the rear of the bank, and after completing work preparatory to leaving the bank, discovered the body of Mr. Bell. The verdict, as rendered by County Coroner Elmer Bentley, was heart trouble.
Mr. Bell was born on July 29, 1882, the son of William and Adelaide Noble Bell, in Knightstown. His family were among the pioneers of this community. He was educated in Knightstown schools and was later enrolled in Purdue University, where he affiliated with the Sigma Nu fraternity. After leaving college he was associated for a short time with the Bell Hardware Co., and later was employed in the Citizens National Bank, where he served as its assistant cashier, and several years ago was advanced to the position of cashier. He had been with the bank for 30 years. Mr. Bell was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge No. 226.
In 1908 he was united in marriage with Edith Woodard, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Woodard. To his union were born two children.
Mr. Bell is survived by the widow, Mrs. Edith Bell; two daughters, Miss Miriam Bell of New York City, and Miss Barbara Bell, of Chicago; and two sisters, Mrs. Elmer Smith and Mrs. Clara Thornton, both of Knightstown.
Funeral services for Mr. Bell were held at his late home Monday afternoon, November 29th, at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. George Bird. Internment was in Glencove cemetery, in charge of H. C. Gordon, funeral director.
