BENTZEL—STAMBAUGH

Lester Jennings Bentzel, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Bentzel, Thomasville R. D. 2, and Miss Anna Mae Stambaugh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Stambaugh, Farmers, were united in marriage Saturday at 8 o'clock by the Rev. Edward V. Strasbaugh, pastor of the Paradise Reformed charge, Spring Grove. The ring ceremony of the Reformed church was used.

The bridegroom and bride had as their attendants Mr. and Mrs. Levi Wheeler, brother-in-law and sister of the bride. Immediately after the ceremony they left for their home near Farmers.

THOMASVILLE — Lester J. Bentzel, 87, of Thomasville RD 1, died at 12:05 a.m. Thursday at his home, after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Annie M. (Stambaugh) Bentzel. THe couple were married 65 years.

Following cremation at Yorktowne Crematory, a memorial service will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Paradise (Holtzschwamm) Lutheran Church, Thomasville RD 1. Burial will be private in the church cemetery. The Sauter-Irwin Funeral Home, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bentzel was born May 13, 1908, in Jackson Township. He was a son of the late George A. and Ida (Myers) Bentzel.

He was a farmer in Paradise Township from 1929 to 1985, and was a carpenter for S.M. Bentzel General Contractors for 30 years.

He was a member of Paradise (Holtzschwamm) Lutheran Church. He belonged to East Berlin Fire Company and the Windy Hill Senior Center.

Mr. Bentzel also is survived by two sons, George E. Bentzel and Dean L. Bentzel, both of Thomasville RD 1; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Anne M. Stambaugh Bentzel of Thomasville died at 2:05 a.m. April 26 at York Hospital. She was 84.

Mrs. Bentzel was a member of Paradise (Holtzschwamm) Lutheran Church, Thomasville, where she was a charter member and past president of the senior citizens group.

She was a charter member of Windy Hill Senior Center, Thomasville, was a member of the task force during its founding, and had been a past member of the advisory board.

Born in Paradise Township, July 14, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lizzie Gruver Stambaugh. She was the wife of the late Lester J. Bentzel who died July 13, 1995.

She leaves two sons, George E. Bentzel and Dean L. Bentzel, both of Thomasville; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
