RIEDEL-BOLTON

The chapel of St. James church in Chicago will be the scene of the wedding at 4:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon of Miss Helen Sophia Riedel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Riedel of Hudson, wis., and Dr. Thomas Cornish Bolton, United States medical corps, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Bolton, 2705 Valley drive. Dr. Duncan H. Browne will perform the ceremony in the presence of relatives and intimate friends of the young couple.

Mrs. James Davidson and Dr. Henry Appelbach will be the attendants. A wedding reception will follow at the University club of Chicago.

The bride is a graduate of Northwester hospital school of nursing of Minneapolis and served overseas with the army nurse corps during the war. Dr. Bolton attended Princeton university and was granted his degree in medicine from Northwestern university. He is a member of Nu Sigma Nu medical fraternity and is on duty at the Great Lakes naval hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Bolton, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Davidson and daughter, Miss Ann Davidson, and son, Kirk, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Davidson and Mrs. Myrtle Davidson departed Thursday for Chicago to attend the wedding. Miss Joan Davidson, who has been visiting in the east, will join them in Chicago.

Twenty-four guests will be entertained at the prenuptial dinner this evening at the Blackstone hotel when Mr. and Mrs. Bolton will preside as hosts in courtesy to their son and his fiance.

Thomas C. Bolton '44

Tom Bolton died July 13, 2008, in Medford, Ore. He was 86.

Tom had a long and distinguished career in medicine and in Medford’s civic affairs. Born in Sioux City, Iowa, he prepped at Lawrenceville. At Princeton, he roomed with John Hendrickson. Tom was a member of the varsity crew and Cloister Inn and was on the business board of The Daily Princetonian. A biology major, he left Princeton in 1943 for Northwestern’s medical school. He was mailed his accelerated Princeton degree, and earned his medical degree in 1947.

After two years with the Navy on a hospital ship, he spent three years at a New Mexico children’s hospital. Tom arrived as Medford’s second orthopedic surgeon in 1955, and soon founded the Medford Orthopedic Group. Tom was active in state and regional medical associations and in area Rotary, theater, business, and church affairs. For 15 years, he was team physician for Medford High School’s football team. He regularly recruited students for Princeton.

Tom’s first wife, Helen, died in 1992, and in 1994, he married Arlene Cunningham. Besides his wife, Tom is survived by his sons, Tom III ’71 and Jeff; daughters Mary Ann Hopewell and Barbara Hopewell; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Our sincere condolences go to all.
