BEDFORD, VA., June 8—Cards have been received announcing the marriage of Miss Grace Hatcher to John Bower, which took place in Washington. The bride is a popular young woman of Bedford County. Mr. Bower is a prominent business man of Bedford and is identified with several of the leading manufacturing enterprises of the town.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Dec. 9.—
Returning with the expectation of opening their winter hime on Larkins, Mr. and Mrs. John Bower, of Bedford, Va., passed through here today. Mr. Bower is a member of a tri-partnership controlling the Larkins canning factory. G. W. Gillespie and Basil Murray, other members of the company, who with Mr. Bower went South little less than a month ago, have returned to Bedford the latter said today. Mr. Bower is manager of the factory and spends most of his time in and around Miami in its interests.

Bedford, Aug. 7—John Bower, prominent Virginia and Florida canner, died at his home here this morning. Mr. Bower was born in Bedford County, a son of James R. Bower and Mrs. Mary Shands Bower. Survivors are his second wife, Mrs. Grace Hatcher Bower, and two children by the first marriage, J. Mitchell Bower of Bedford, and Mrs. E. A. Hatcher of Pineville, W. Va. The following brother and sisters survive also: C. C. Bower, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Mrs. Mattie Deane of Harrisonburg, route 3; Mrs. James Lambert and Mrs. Margaret Rickerts, both of Norfolk.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Bedford Presbyterian Church of which he was a member, Monday at 11 A.M., with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.

BEDFORD — John Mitchell Bower, age 86, of 1237 Oakwood St., died Thursday, March 30, 1989 in Jackson, Miss. He was born in Bedford County, May 23, 1902, a son of the late John Bower and Sarah Mitchell Bower. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Kivisto Bower, and two sons, James Mitchell Bower and William Leftwich Bower. He was the retired owner and operator of Bower Dry Cleaners and was a member of Bedford Presbyterian Church. He is survived by a son, Dr. John D. Bower, Jackson, Miss; six grandchildren, Ann N. Bower, John M. Bower, and Paul D. Bower; all of Jackson, Miss.; James E. Bower and Robert F. Bower, both of Blacksburg; Kathryn B. Thomas, Reston. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside in Greenwood Cemetery Sunday at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Richard N. Boyce officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Home in Bedford.
