I, Alice B. Dewing, a resident of Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa, now and for sometime past sojourning at Ann Arbor, Michigan, on account of ill-health and inability to travel, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, and leaving no husband, child or parent surviving me, do hereby make, publish and declare this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all others that I may have made.
1. All my just debts and funeral expenses and expenses of administration shall first be paid in full.
2. I hereby give and bequeath to my niece, Mildred Joy Robertson, the sum of Three Hundred Dollars, and a pearl brooch.
3. I hereby give and bequeath to Mrs. H. C. Brown of Clermont, Florida, the sum of Two Thousand Dollars.
4. I hereby give and bequeath to my cousin, Frank Leverett, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, the sum of One Thousand Dollars.
5. I hereby give and bequeath to Mrs. Alice F. Swift, now residing at 335 14th St., Portland, Oregon, my gold chain with pearl and diamond pendant.
6. I hereby give and bequeath to Mrs. Mary Leverett Houston, of Denmark, Iowa, the sum of Two Thousand Dollars, my pearl ring, my gold watch and chain and my pair of gold link cuff buttons. In case of the death of the said Mary Leverett Houston before my own decease, I desire that this bequest shall go to her daughter, Florence Houston.
7. I hereby give and bequeath to the Associated Charities of Washington, D. C., the sum of Ten Thousand Dollars.
8. I hereby give and bequeath to the Iowa Children's Hoem Society of Des Moines, Iowa, the sum of Ten Thousand Dollars, for the uses of said society in caring for orphan and abandoned children who are crippled or deformed.
9. I direct that my diamond ring be sold by me executor and the proceeds thereof be added to my estate.
10. I hereby give and bequeath to Keokuk Benevolent Union at Keokuk, Iowa, the sum of Fifteen Thousand Dollars.
11. I further direct that all the residue and remainder of my estate, after the payment of specific bequests and all debts and necessary expenses and charges of administering my estate, shall be added to the bequest in Paragraph 10, to Keokuk Benevolent Union.
12. I hereby authorize and empower the executor this will herein named, or his successor in office for the time being, to sell and convey any part of my real or personal property at either public or private sale as he may deem best and whenever in the settlement of my estate he, in his discretion, considers such sale advisable, and I hereby empower him to execute and deliver all deeds, conveyances or other instruments of transfer, and all of which may be done without order of court, and for the purpose of enabling him to sell and convey the said property I hereby vest the title thereof in my said executor for said purpose and insofar as it is necessary to enable him to execute said conveyances in his name as such executor.
13. I hereby nominate and appoint my brother-in-law, Clyde R. Joy, as executor of this will and I direct that he may act as such without bond. In case of his death or inability to act as such executor I direct that the Keokuk National Bank be appointed as executor in his stead.
14. It is my desire and I hereby direct that this will be probated and my estate administered upon at Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa, which place I have, for many years, considered as my permanent residence, although on account of illness I have been unable to go there as I did previously, but at which place at all times practically all of my property has been located and kept.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have signed my name to this my last will and testament consisting of this and two preceding pages, on this 26 day of July, 1926.
