Carkhuff Gordon 1914-1996
Gordon Haley Carkhuff, 81, of LW Mutual 16, had a memorial service in his honor on Aug. 11, at LW Community Church.
"The family extends its appreciation to those who gave their friendship and true loving care," said a spokesman for the family.
He was born November 16, 1914.
Mr. Carkhuff had lived in LW since 1981. Upon their move back to California from Kona, Hawaii, Mr. Carkhuff and his wife of 50 years, Ruth, came back to LW to "really" retire.
Ruth preceded her husband in death in October 1988.
Mr. Carkhuff's father, J. Elmer and his wife, Nettie, were original purchases of LW apartment 51-A as a model in 1964. Gordon and Ruth helper Elmer and Nettie throughout their residency until Nettie's death in January 1980.
Survivors include his brother, C. Wesley (Rosanna) Carkhuff of Mesa, Ariz.; two sons, Richard E. (Jan) Carkhuff of Bend, Ore. and Michael G. (Carole) Carkhuff of Springfield, Va.; five grandchildren, Kelly, Chrise, Michael, Kevin and Farrah; three great-grandchildren, Rachelle, Kayla and Andrew.
