Waterloo Founding Family Member Dies in California

Death has come to another member of the founding family of Waterloo.

A notice was received here Tuesday of the death in a Riverside, Calif., hospital three weeks ago of Mrs. Mary Colton Dean, 76, a granddaughter of George Washington Hanna and his wife, Mary Melrose Hanna, who is considered the "Mother of Waterloo."

Mrs. Dean, who was buried in Riverside, was the widow of Lon Dean and the daughter of Mrs. Edith Hanna Colton. The Hanna family came to the present site of Waterloo in 1845.

Mrs. Dean was also preceded in death by a son, Robert. Surviving are tow grandsons, Thomas and Terry Dean of Riverside; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Hanna Tayman of San Antonio, Tex.; and a brother, Dewey Colton of Topeka, Kan.
