Miss Ruth Ann Young of Kansas City, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Challis Young of Marshall, became the bride of Mr. John Richard Crocker, Philadelphia, Pa., son of Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Crocker of Warrensburg, in a lovely summer wedding at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon, June 9 at the First Baptist Church in Marshall. The Rev. Harvey Baker Smith read the single ring service in the sanctuary of the church which was decorated with cathedral standards holding white tapers and baskets of white gladioli. White satin bows marked the family pews. Mrs. C. L. Fichthorn played a program of weddig music before and during the ceremon, using the traditional wedding march.
Given in marriage by her father, Mr. James Challis Young, the bride wore a gown of French Chantilly lace and nylon tulle styled with molded bodice sweetheart neckline and long, tapering sleeves. The full lace skirt revealed a deep flounce of pleated tulle which circled from a back panel of tiered nylon ruffles. Her double fingertip veil of bridal illusion cascaded from a crown of white lilacs and she carried a bouquet of white rosebuds centered with a white orchid with white satin streamers.
Her matron of honor, Mrs. Gene Consolus of Clinton, Mo., wore a gown of avocado greed silk organza over taffeta designed with pointed bodice, deep neckline and cap sleeves and a full ballerina skirt. She wore a small hairbraid hat trimmed with tiny flowers and a bow veil and carried a colonial bouquet of yellow daisies with shower of satin ribbons. The bridesmaids, Miss Sarah Purtzer of Kansas City and Miss Nancy Gage of Kansas City, were gowns identical in style and color to that of the matron of honor and they carried colonial bouquets of white daisies.
Mr. Robert L. Crocker of Warrensburg, brother of the groom, acted as best man and Mr. E. R. Consolus of Clinton, and Mr. Robert Warnick of Warrensburg, were groomsmen. The ushers were Mr. R. C. Bass, Warrensburg, and Mr. H. C. SMith, Jr. of Omaha, Nebr.
For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Young wore a gown of aqua sheer with white accessories. The bridegroom's mother wore a lace gown of Dior blue with white accessories. Both wore corsages of pink rosebuds.
Immediately following the ceremony a reception was held in the church parlor which was decorated with baskets of white gladioli and bouquets of lilies and baby breath. The four-tiered wedding cake was wreathed with ferns and white sweet peas and topped with a white wedding bell and dove which was used at the 60th wedding anniversary of the bride's grandparents. Miss Kathryn Ann Vaughn, Mrs. Robert Warnic and Mrs. Winton Allen served at the receptions. Miss Betty Hopkins was in charge of the guest book.
For traveling the bride chose a blue suit of Italian cotten tween with navy and white accessories and she wore a white orchid corsage. After a short wedding trip to New Orleans, Mr. and Mrs. Crocker will be at home after July 1 in Philadelphia, Pa.
