Harry Brinton, 31, of Enola, committed suicide at the foot of Chestnut street, in River Park, Harrisburg, yesterday by shooting himself in the mouth, while his wife was preparing to attend the funeral of her husband's nephew in Shiremanstown.
Believed to have become discouraged on account of his poor physical condition, Brinton, who was the father of six small children and an agent for a local insurance company, killed himself early last night with a bullet from an automatic pistol, according to Dr. J. N. Kreider, coroner.
Adolph Nardi, of 128 Blanche avenue, Steelton, discovered the body while strolling along the river at 7:15 o'clock this morning. He immediately notified the city police, who summoned Doctor Krieder.
The manager of an insurance company for whom he worked said his accounts were all right.
It is the belief of the insurance manager that Brinton worked Tuesday and part of yesterday. This was based on the discovery in one of his pockets of a piece of paper that showed he had collected $39.45. The only money found in his pockets was 38 cents. A brief case in which he carried his insurance policies and other papers, and his collection book, were missing.
Mrs. Brinton was prostrated at the news of her husband's death and returned to her home in Enola.
Besides his widow and six children, Brinton is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Brinton, of Mechanicsburg.
Funeral services will be held at the undertaking establishment of Harper Myers, at Mechanicsburg, on Saturday at 1:30 o'clock. Interment will be made in St. John's cemetery.
