ISAAC DOUGAN, 80 YEARS OLD, DIES

Former Chief of Fire Department and Pioneer Resident of Richmond, Succumbs.

Isaac G. Dougan, who died yesterday afternoon at 12:30 in the home, 1224 Main street, after a week's illness, was one of the best-known citizens of Richmond. Death was due to a complication of diseases. Mr. Dougan passed his eightieth birthday Sunday.

Born in Niles, Mich., in 1838, Mr. Dougan came to Richmond in 1856. He was chief of the fire department from1860 to 1880 and held several other public offices.

In 1884 he removed to Nebraska, where he resided until 1894, at which time he returned to Richmond. Mr. Dougan lived on a farm fur miles north of the city on the Williamsburg pike until 1904, when he moved to Spring Grove. In the spring of 1917 he came to Richmond, living at 1224 Main street until his death.

He and his step-father, Daniel Reid, for a number of years operated a grocery at Eighth and North E streets, then the largest grocery in this city. After the death of Mr. Reid he conducted the business for a number of years.

He was the oldest member of the Whitewater lodge of Odd Fellows.

He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Emiline Dougan; two daughters, Mrs. Elbert McClure of Kansas City and Mrs. Thomas Scott of this city; two granddaughters, Miss Ruth Scott of this city, and Miss Helen McClure of Kansas City; two grandsons, Ralph McClure and Ernest McClure of Kansas City; three brothers, Daniel G. Reid of New York, George B. Dougan and Dr. D. H. Dougan of this city, and one sister, Mrs. Martha Fostler of North Seventh street, this city.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the home. The Odd Fellows' lodge will hold services in the home Wednesday evening at 7:30 o'clock. Friends may call this evening and Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 o'clock. Burial will be in Earlham cemetery. Rev. J. J. Rae will officiate.

MRS. DOUGAN IS TAKEN BY DEATH

Widow of Isaac G. Dougan Succumbs After Lingering Illness; Funeral Friday

Mrs. Emeline Taylor Dougan, age 87 years, widow of the late Isaac G. Dougan, died at her home, 1224 Main street at 9;30 o'clock Wednesday night, following a lingering illness.

Mrs. Dougan was born on February 7, 1841, southwest of Richmond, on what is now the Niewoehner farm. She had lived in Richmond all her life with the exception of 10 years spent with her family in Nebraska.

Mrs. Dougan with her husband returned to this city in 1894 and resided on a farm on the Williamsburg pike. ten years later, they moved to a place on the Chester pike, near the Reid Memorial hospital. In 1917 they moved to the present residence. Mr. Dougan died in 1918.

Mrs. Dougan was the oldest living member of the First Presbyterian church, having joined the church at the age of 15, her grandparents being charter members of the church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Leota McClure and Mrs. Clara D. Scott, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the home,1224 Main street, at 4:30 o'clock Friday afternoon. Interment will be made in Earlham cemetery. Friends may call any time after 6 o'clock Thursday night at the home.
