WESLEY FULTON IS REPORTED MISSING

Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Fulton, 403 East Braasch avenue, Norfolk, Nebr., formerly of Plainview, received a telegram from the war department Saturday stating their son, S-Sgt. Wesley W. Fulton, has been missing since Jan. 25 somewhere between British Guiana Brazil. He was flying overseas for combat duty at the time he was reported missing.

Fulton Memorial Service Is Held

Plainview, Neb.—Special to The News: Memorial services for Sergt. Wesley W. Fulton, who was lost while ferrying a bomber from Florida for overseas duty in January, 1945, were held Sunday afternoon at the Stark Valley Methodist church with the Rev. C. Edwin Murphy officiating. The services were attended by members of the Claire Fryer American Legion post and auxiliary.

Commander Fae Evans presented the flag to Wallace Fulton, father of Sergeant Fulton, on behalf of the Legion. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Clarence Norris, George Hetrick, Norris Hetrick, and C. Edwin Murphy, accompanied by Mrs. Velda Bohl.

Wesley Wallace Fulton, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Fulton, was born March 30, 1923, near Plainview. He attended the rural school in District 12, completing the first ten grades, then attended high school in Plainview where he was graduated in 1940.

After helping on the farm one year he enlisted in the army air corps April, 1941, and was sent to Chanute Field technical training school in Illinois. He graduated from this school Dec. 6, 1941, after which he was sent to Shaw Field, Sumter, S. C., where he spent two and one-half years as a ground crewman. While there he was chosen to take a specialized course in mechanics at the Wright aeronautical school, Patterson, N. J. In 1944 he volunteered as an aerial gunner and received his wings at the flexible gunnery school at Ft. Myers, Fla.

He joined his crew at Barksdale Field, La., after a furlough home, and was assigned to a B-26 Marauder bomber as an engineer-gunner. After four months of combat training at Lake Charles, La., he and the other members of the crew were called for overseas duty. They took off from Morrisson Field, Fla., ferrying a new bomber across. They were last reported when flying over the jungle of South America on the morning of Jan. 25, 1945.

He was a member of the Stark Valley Methodist church and Sunday school where he attended regularly when he was home.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Fulton, now of Norfolk, Neb., two brothers, Arnold of Plainview, and Lowell of Casper, Wyo., and his fiance, Miss Ruth Clark of Washington, D. C.

Body of Sgt. Fulton Found in Brazil

SON OF MR. AND MRS. WALLACE FULTON LISTED MISSING SINCE JANUARY 1945

Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Fulton last week received work from the War Department that one of the bodies found in the wreckage of a B-26 bomber on a mountainside in Brazil had been identified as that of their son, Staff Sergeant Wesley Fulton. He had been listed as missing since January 25, 1945.

Sergt. Fulton was on his first mission overseas at the time the plane crashed. Previously to that time he served in the army air forces in camps in the United States, including Chanute Field, Ill., and Charleston, S. C.

Sergt. Fulton was the youngest of three sons of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Fulton, being among the pioneer families of this county. They moved recently to Norfolk.

He was born March 30, 1925, at Stark Valley, south of Plainview, and was 19 years old at the time he lost his life in the service of his country. He was graduated from Plainview high school in 1940. In high school he was a star football player.

He enlisted in the army when he was 18 years old. he first served in a ground crew in the army air forces and later was made an engineer on a B-26.

Surviving are his parents and two brothers, Arnold, who resides near Plainview and Lowell, Casper, Wyo.
