Mrs. Carl J. Gerlach, 61, 1032 S. Jackson St., died Monday at a local hospital following a long illness. The former Evelyn Kessler was born Nv. 2, 1917 in Tremont, OH to the late Chauncy and Grace Kessler. A resident of Green Bay since 1938, she was a graduate of St. Norbert College and a former elementary school teacher in Green Bay. She married Carl Gerlach at LaFayette, Ind. on May 28, 1938.
Mrs. Gerlach was a member of the Sanctuary Society of St. Willebrord Church; a former member and past president of St. Norbert College Parent Association and member of the Genealogical Society of the Brown County Library.
Survivors include her husband; five son, David, Middleton, Mass.; Staff Sgt. Thomas, U.S. Army, Korea; James, Robert and Timothy, Green Bay; six daughters, Nancy Gerlach, Wenham, Mass.; Mrs. John (Carolyn) Cavanagh, Fredericksburg, Va.; Kathryn Gerlach and Ann Gerlach, Green Bay; Mary Jo and Jane at home; 17 grandchildren.
Friends may call at Schauer and Schumacher East Side Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Wake service 8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Willebrord Church with the Rev. Ambrose Pesters officiating. Burial in Allouez Cemetery.

Carl J. Gerlach, 80, 1009 Shadow Lane, Green Bay, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning April 20, 1994. He was born February 1, 1914 in Marinette to Ewald and Lona Gerlach. After moving to Green Bay, he attended East High School and later pursued a Mechanical Engineering Degree at Purdue University. On May 29, 1938 he married the former Evelyn Kessler. She preceded him in death in July of 1979. He married Beatrice (Van Pay) Sinclair in February 1984. Carl had been employed by FMC Corporation, formerly Hudson Sharp of Green Bay, for 35 years as a Chief Engineer in the field of Machine Design. He had been an active member of St. Willebrord Parish as and Usher and Lay Distributor. He later joined St. Joseph Parish and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Some of his other interests and hobbies included Civil Air Patrol, ham radio operation, bowling, playing cards with family and friends, square dancing and reading. Carl enjoyed life to its fullest.
He is survived by five son, six daughters, one stepson and their spouses: David and Pam Gerlach, Middleton, Mass.; Thomas and Lynn Gerlach, Green Bay; James and Judy Gerlach, Green Bay; Robert Gerlach, Green Bay; Timothy and Linda Gerlach, Green Bay; Nancy Gerlach, Wenham, Mass.; Carolyn and Jack Cavanagh, Falmouth, Va.; Kathryn Stites, Green Bay; Ann Gerlach, Green Bay; Jo and Steve Sato, Newport News, Va.; Jane Gerlach, Green Bay; Paul and Judy Sinclair, Green Bay; 29 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one sister and brother-in-law; Gertrude and Elmer Duquaine, Green Bay; one brother Robert Gerlach, Milwaukee; one sister-in-law Genevieve Pigeon, Green Bay; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother leon, two brothers-in-law, James Kessler and Vernon Pigeon, and one sister-in-law, Betty Gerlach.
Friends may call at Schauer & Schumacher East Side Funeral Home, 240 So. Monroe Ave., from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday. Parish wake service 7 p.m. Friday. Visitation will continue after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Church with the Rev. Stan Brown officiating.
