Mrs. Francis Gombar

BRODHEAD — Mrs. Francis Gombar, 64, died unexpectedly this morning in St. Clare Hospital, Monroe.

The former Gertie Christina Skolas, daughter of Martin and Julia Nelson Skolas, was born May 29, 1898, in Stoughton. She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. Her marriage to Francis Gombar took place July 2, 1921, at Waukegan, Ill.

Surviving are her husband; a son, Francis Jr.; three grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Skolas, Rochester, Minn., and a sister, Mrs. Lester Galvin, Madison.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Newcomer Funeral Home, the Rev. Lyle G. Stephenson, Methodist pastor, officiating. BUrial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday evening.

BRODHEAD — Francis S. Gombar, 68, well-known surveyor in the Brodhead area, died unexpectedly at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Clare Hospital, Monroe. He underwent surgery there three weeks ago and had expected to return to his home this week.

Born Aug. 17, 1897, in Brodhead, the son of David and Frances Sutherland Gombar, he was a graduate of Brodhead High School and of the University of Wisconsin in 1922. He received a UW letter in track, one of Brodhead's few letterman, and was a member of the Wisconsin Alumni Club.

Mr. Gombar and Gertie Christina Skolas were married July 2, 1921, in Waukegan, Ill. She died in 1962.

He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion, American Congress of Surveyors and Maps, Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors and the Society of Cincinnatus.

Surviving are a son, Francis S., of rural Brodhead; and three grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Newcomer Funeral Home, the Rev. Lyle Stephenson, Brodhead Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening at the funeral home.
