Charles Hafer

Charles Hafer died at his residence in Abbottstown at 3:10 a. m. November 3rd at the age of 78 years, from a complication of diseases, following an extended illness.

Mr. Hafer was a son of the late Henry and Amanda (Newell) Hafer and is survived by his widow, who was Belle Stambaugh before her marriage, and the following nine children: Mrs. Levi Eisenhour, near York; Mrs. Mina Laughman, York; Mrs. Joseph Mullen, Baltimore; Harrison and Sterling Hafer, York; Donald Hafer, Seattle, Washington; Carrol Hafer, Sunbury; Mrs. Donald Lenman and Homer Hafer, both at home. He also leaves 33 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services was conducted Tuesday at 10 a. m. from the late home. The Rev. Paul Gladfelter, Jacobus, pastor emeritus of the Abbottstown Lutheran church, officiated. Interment was made in the Abbottstown Lutheran cemetery.

The pallbearers were Harry Spangler, Robert Berkheimer, Earl Haversack, Wilbur Haines, William Baker and Stephen Wolf.

Mrs. Charles Hafer

Mrs. Belle E. Stambaugh Hafer, 95, Abbottstown, died at Hillview House, Hanover, at 9 p.m. Monday. She had been in failing health for a year and was hospitalized two weeks.

Born in York County, she was a daughter of the late Conrad and Sarah A. Altland Stambaugh. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Abbottstown, and the Abbottstown Fire Co. auxiliary.

Her husband, Charles J. H. Hafer, died in 1940.

Surviving are two children: Mrs. Donald A. Lehman, Abbottstown R. 1, and Homer Hafer Sr., Abbottstown; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, Harrison Hafer, York; Mrs. Fannie Mullen, Phoenix, Ariz.; Donald Hafer, Seattle, Wash., and Carroll Hafer, Sunbury; 32 stepgrandchildren and a sister, Mrs. John Kiick, Ephrata.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Feiser Funeral Home, New Oxford, with Rev. Garnet Zimmerman, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Abbottstown.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock.
