EDWARD WARREN HALE DIES

Formerly Deputy Assistant U. S. Treasurer

Cranford, N. J., May 19—Edward Warren Hale, formerly Deputy Assistant Treasurer of the United States at Washington, D. C., and a former resident of Brooklyn for many years, died here on Saturday at his residence, 18 Cranford ave. His funeral services were held there this afternoon, with interment at Westfield, N. J. Mr. Hale was born in Norwood, N. Y., about seventy years ago. He resigned his office in the United States Treasury two years ago, on account of ill health, and had been ill at his home since that time. He is survived by his wife, Minna C. Field, daughter of Thomas W. Field, former superintendent of education of the old City of Brooklyn; a son, Frank Spinner Hale, and two daughters, Miss Alice Field Hale and Ella Crittendon Button, the wife of Maj. Jesse Scott Button, U. S. A., of Schenectady, N. Y., who recently returned from service abroad. Mr. Hale's youngest son, William Asa Hale, of the U. S. Aeroplane Inspection Service, was killed in an accident last July, while in a machine on an inspection flight at the Curtiss Field, near Buffalo, N. Y.

MRS. E. W. HALE DIES

Mrs. Minna Charlotte Field Hale, widow of Edward Warren Hale, and a former resident of this borough, died in Cranford, N. J., on Friday at her residence, 18 Cranford avenue, where her funeral services will be held this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock.

Mrs. Hale's husband, who died a year ago, was Deputy Assistant U. S. Treasurer at the U. S. Sub-Treasury in Wall street, Manhattan. She was a daughter of Thomas W. Field, formerly Superintendent of Public Instruction in the old City of Brooklyn from 1873 until the time of his death in November 1881. Her mother was Mrs. Charlotte Augusta Weir Field. Mrs. Hale was a cousin of the late J. Alden Weir, the famous artist of New York City, and she was a direct descendant of Gov. William Braford, of Massachusetts.

Mrs. Hale's son, William Asa Hale, an inspector of airplanes for the U. S. Government, was killed in an airplane accident at Curtiss Field, Buffalo, N. Y., about two years ago while testing an airplane. Mrs. Hale is survived by a son, Frank Hale, of Manhattan; two daughters, Mrs. Ella Crittendon Button, wife of Major Button, of Syracuse, N. Y., and Miss Alice Field Hale, and two brothers, Charles Weir Field of Brooklyn, and Louis R. Field, of Manhattan.
