Pine boughs, baskets of chrysanthemums and gladioli, and lighted white tapers adorned the altar of the Methodist church at Blackstone, forming a lovely background for the nuptial ceremony which united the lives of Miss Elizabeth Harwood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Harwood of that community, and Mr. Lloyd Erickson, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. O. Erickson of near Pontiac, at noon Tuesday.
The single ring service was read by Rev. Harry Harwood, uncle of the bride, who was a Methodist missionary in Burma for many years and is now here on furlough. He was assisted by Rev. C. R. Lockard, pastor of the Blackstone church.
Mrs. Clarence Voights presided at the organ, playing several nuptial selections preceding and during the ceremony. She also accompanied Mrs. Beata Hartwig, sister of the bridegroom, of Normal, who sang "I Love You Truly" and "O, Promise Me."
Attending the bride were her sister, Miss Mary Harwood, as bridesmaid, and Mrs. Virginia Patterson, as matron of honor. The bridesmaid wore yellow mousseline de soie over taffeta, and Mrs. Patterson, pastel blue jersey and net over taffeta. Their blusher veils matched their dresses, and they carried bouquets of mums, fern and baby breath.
The bride was lovely in a gown of white satin fashioned with a sweetheart neckline, fitted bodice, long sleeves and full skirt. Tiny satin-covered buttons extended down the back to the waistline. Her finger-tip veil was held in place with a coronet-type cap, and she carried a bouquet of pink roses, fern and baby breath.
Kenneth Patterson served as best man, and groomsman was Elmer Erickson, brother of the bridegroom. They all wore dark suits and had chrysanthemum boutonnieres. Ushers were Carol Hayward, Ted Davies and Jeff Pennington.
For her daughter's marriage, Mrs. Harwood wore an aqua crepe dress with brown accessories and had a shoulder corsage of pink and white carnations. The bridegroom's mother selected a black angel crepe dress with matching accessories and a shoulder corsage of red carnations and white chrysanthemums. The bride's maternal grandmother, Mrs. Robert Hoobler, also wore black and had a shoulder corsage of red carnations and white chrysanthemums.
The wedding dinner was served in the church parlors to the bridal party and immediate families and close friends of the couple. They left immediately after the meal for a motor honeymoon without revealing their destination. For traveling, Mrs. Erickson changed to an old rose velveteen suit trimmed with lace with harmonizing accessories. When they return, they will reside on a farm near Pontiac.
Mrs. Erickson is a graduate of the local high school and prior to her marriage was employed by the Owens-Illinois Glass company here. Her husband was graduated from the Cornell high school and has since been engaged in farming near Pontiac.
