DEATH TAKES DR. HUNNICUTT

Sabetha and the surrounding communities were deeply saddened November 24, 1977 by the death of Dr. Cecil Hunnicutt. He passed away at the Sabetha Hospital after being there a week.

Tho it was known Dr. Hunnicutt had a terminal illness, he was apparently holding his own, so his death came as a severe shock.

Dr. Hunnicutt was honored and respected by a host of people. He walked tall in his profession, in his community and his retirement several months ago left a huge gap that will not be filled for a long time.

Cecil C. Hunnicutt, son of Homer H. Hunnicutt and Abbie H. Gray Hunnicutt, was born at Giltner, Nebraska on March 17, 1904. He moved to California with his family where he attended schools. Upon graduation from University of California at Los Angeles, in pre-medicine in 1927, he attended Loma Linda University and graduated in medicine in the year of 1932. He then served his internship at Los Angeles General Hospital in 1932 and followed a 10 year preceptorship in surgery. He entered the Army Air Corps in September 1942 and was stationed at Grand Island, Nebraska, Sioux City, Iowa and Randolph Field in San Antonio, Texas. He was discharged in March 1946 from the Air Corps. He opened his practice in Sabetha on July 1, 1946.

He was a member of the Sabetha United Methodist Church since 1946. He was the first president of the Northeast Kansas Medical Society, the Kansas Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He was a Fellow of the International College of Abdominal Surgeons, a Fellow of the Southwestern Surgical Society and was certified by the American Board of Abdominal Surgeons, the past president of the Chamber of Commerce, a past member of the Sabetha Kiwanis Club, and served as a member of the Montebello, California school board and the Lions Club of Montebello.

He was united in marriage to the former Pauline Collins on August 2, 1928 at Riverside, California. She preceded him in death on August 26, 1976. He was later married to the former Vera Collins. She survives.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Reid of South San Francisco, Calif., Mrs. Charles (Carolyn) Dickinson of Fort Collins, Colorado, Mrs. Norman (Dorothy) Giddens of Boston, Mass.; one son, Donald Hunnicutt of Detroit, Mich.; and seven grandchildren; also a sister, Mrs. Leta Kredji of Xenia, Ohio.
