Alberta Barnsill Huston, the daughter of Mary and James Barnhill, was born February 2, 1893, in Oskaloosa, Iowa and passed away at the home of her sister in law, Mrs. Frank Elliot, near Garden City, Mo. on January 22, 1948 at the age of 54 years, 11 months and 20 days. She spent her early life and received her education near the place of her birth.
On October 9, 1920, she was united in marriage to Vernon Huston of Garden City. THey made their home in Kansas City and vicinity until 1936 when they moved to California. In 1944 her health failed and since that time her husband has very devotedly and untiringly cared for her. A few months ago they came back to Missouri hoping the change of climate would benefit her.
About three weeks ago she became critically ill and all that loving hands and tender care could do was of no avail. The time had come for the dear Lord to call her to the heavenly home.
Alberta was a very cheerful person and she made a host of friends wherever she lived. She was a great lover of music. She read extensively and was a good conversationalist on a variety of subjects.
In early life she became a member of the Christian church and later moved her membership to the Methodist church in LaJolla, Calif. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband; a brother, Wilbur Barnhill of Oskaloosa; an uncle; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
Funeral services were held at the Canaday and Ropp Funeral Home in Holden, Mo., at 2 p. m. Sunday, January 25. Rev. Chas A. Swofford of Harrisonville officiated.
Music was by Mr. and Mrs. John Hatfield, Mrs. Eula Coleman, Dail Wright and Mrs. Elsie Woods of Garden City.
Burial was in Elmwood cemetery in Kansas City.
