Walter Myrick King, 29 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Edgar King, 326 North Eleventh street, was one of the more than 475 persons killed Saturday night in the fire which swept the Cocoanut Grove Night club, Boston, Mass. King and his roommmate had gone to the night club to see the floor show and were suffocated in the fire. Mr. and Mrs. King were notified of the tragedy Sunday.
King was graduated from the Richmond High school in the class of 1931 and from Earlham college in 1935. After graduating from Earlham he entered the firm of B. Johnson and Son where he was employed four years. Benjamin N. Johnson often commented on the brilliant mind of King. He rated him one of the outstanding young men of the community.
Leaving the Johnson firm he entered Harvard Business school where he took his Master's degree in business administration in June, 1941. Since that time he has been employed at the Submarine Signal corporation in Boston. He spent Thanksgiving in Richmond with his family.
King was a former Boy Scout commissioner of Wayne county and an Eagle Scout.
Surviving are the parents, a brother, Lt. William Reid King, stationed at Fort Norris, N. C.; a sister, Mrs. J. E. Weesner of Bronxville, N. Y.; a nephew and two aunts, Mrs. Thomas Ahl of Centerville and Mrs. Walter King of Indianapolis.
